Peptic Ulcers

A peptic ulcer can also be called a gastric ulcer. A peptic ulcer is an open sore which is found in the lining of your stomach. Many people have peptic ulcers, which makes it very common. The effects of having a petic ulcer may include loss of appetite, bloating, burping, vomiting and feeling sick in the stomach.

To prevent Peptic ulcers wash your hands frequently after going to the toilet (Use water and soap), make sure food is cooked properly and cleaned and drink from a clean water source. If you are on NSAID medication take lower dosages, take NSAIDs with meals and ask your doctor to change your presciption if needed and or wanted.

The cause of peptic ulcers are mainly by unclean food or water or mouth to mouth contact (Kissing) Ulcers mainly effect people that are over the age of 60, female, have taking NSAIDs for a long time or have had an ulcer before. Also if you get rid of your ulcer it has a chance of coming back if you take NSAIDs and smoke.


The way to treat Peptic Ulcers depends on how it was caused. Your Doctor may prescribe you one or more of the two given medicines:

-A proton pump inhibitor (PPI) to reduce stomach acid and protect the lining of your stomach.

-One or more antibiotics
